No Man's Sky | Beginner Tips, Hints, and Guides

No Man's Sky Beyond Next walkthrough faq guides beginner tips hints
  • There are three currencies available in NMS. The primary currency is Units, which can be earned throughout normal gameplay. Players can also earn Quicksilver and Nanites, though that will take a bit more work.
  • Exploring is a big part of the entire experience here and you’ll want to take time to scan new planets, animals, plants, and look around for discoveries along your journey.
  • While there is a primary storyline, you’ll want to take time away from it to just get used to the different systems and planets you visit. Once you unlock the ability to build a base, we suggest putting together a basic outpost that you can travel to via the portal found in the various space stations you come across.
  • Resources for each planet can vary quite a bit. Make sure you’re picking up new resources as you find them and checking the prices available at the Galactic Trade Terminal. Not only will you need each of these resources for crafting, but they can also sell for a pretty penny at times.
  • If you don’t feel like mining for resources and putting in the work, you can always head to the nearest space station and pick up the items you need, if the Galactic Trade Terminal has any for sale.
  • Make sure you’re saving up your Units to purchase new ships and Technology Modules. You’ll have to buy a new ship if you want to explore more galaxies with fewer interruptions.
  • While some planets are more friendly, others can feature toxic and radioactive environments. Scanning a planet before you land will allow you to see its various elements, minerals, and even the type of atmosphere and environment that it has.
