The zombie apocalypse is about to begin... again. Deep Silver is ready to kick off the closed beta for its free-to-play zombie MOBA, Dead Island: Epidemic. The zombie-killing MOBA has officially started its closed beta on PC.

Epidemic takes the MOBA genre to some interesting new places, utilizing WASD keyboard movement that's normally reserved for MMORPGs and FPS games and also splitting games up into three teams of four. The game includes dynamic gameplay objectives, as well as the series' signature crafting mechanics. Oh, and zombies. There will be zombies.

Closed beta participants will receive unspecified in-game items and rewards that they can keep all the way through Epidemic's final release. Interested zombies slayers can sign up through the Dead Island Epidemic homepage.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

man, did anyone really ask for this? I wonder what they were thinking, other than, hey MOBA make a lot of money, let's shoehorn our game into a MOBA and make bank!

So tired of MOBAs. The Warhammer one is even worse than this one.

It's not MOBAs themselves that are the problem, its developers who don't get that cheap imitations never succeed when the real thing is available.

And they all fall into the same genre hence it becomes a problem in itself.
