Resident Evil 4 HD coming to PC in February

Though Resident Evil 4 is technically available on PC, it's a shoddy port from 2007 and you'll need to hunt for a second-hand copy, which is wholly unacceptable for such a fine and influential game. Oh, happy day! Capcom has announced that it's bringing "the ultimate HD edition" of its zombie melodrama to PC on February 28.

It'll run in 60fps with improved textures and other graphical whizzbangs, along with global leaderboards and Steam features like Cloud saves. It also includes the extra bits from the game's various releases, like the 'Separate Ways' mini-campaign introduced with the PS3 release.

One imagines it's simply a port of the modern console revamp released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2011, which received solid reviews. Like them, it'll cost $19.99.

You're right that it's been ported a million times now, but I personally haven't played it since the Gamecube original and would love to play a new, crisp PC version.

Why? Because having a good, available port of a good game is better than a shitty, unavailable one.

The Gamecube version is in 360p (letterboxed in 4:3). Most PC's could play this at 3600p. That's justification alone.

Seems like this game would be like 10x easier with mouse support?

you'd think that but with the Wii version they made it where you had to manually aim the sniper rifle with the nunchuck, ie you couldn't use the wiimote to aim it.

Doesn't look very HD to me. Muddy textures, low poly models. Maybe it's just the encoding on the youtube video, the screenshots look a bit better.

It sure is up there. I bought a gamecube just for this title, and played it through 4 times in a row. I'd have hoped they'd have a RE0-3 package, so we could experience the earlier games also.

The gc controller I thought was just perfect for it, and I never got hand cramps or felt disadvantaged in aiming; quite the opposite really, as the slow turn speed correlated well with enemy speed and added tactical tension, and I hope they tune this well for the xbox controller. It's not at all clear to me that m+kb will improve RE4

Is RE4 still survival horror or is it the one that got more actioney?

The one that started the more actioney trend, but still vaguely survival horror-like because of the tankish control scheme where you have to come to a complete stop to aim and shoot, and resource management and such. I'm not sure how well it holds up today but at the time it was great. Even the insane and campy story was occasionally enjoyable.

Does anyone know if HD changed how grenades worked in RE4? It was so fucking annoying to have to pause the game, go into the inventory, and equip each individual grenade you wanted to throw, then go back into the inventory, and re-equip your gun. God damnit just thinking about that pissed me off.

Do we think the mouse support will be in any better or will we be stuck with a gamepad? I've finished RE4 on 3 different platforms multiple times now but have no interest in doing it on the PC with a gamepad.. if there was decent mouselook support tho I'd fire this up in an instant.

I should probably have tried it on the Wii huh.

The first PC RE4 release sucked and had shitty controls, no mouse control.
However, Capcom has been getting much better at PC porting, I remain optimistic.

Actually, I could kill for a fullHD Resident Evil 4 HD version Wii U.

True nerds can already achieve that with the Dolphin, but it would be amazing to have the HD version on Wii U.
