EA and Maxis are aiming to bring you the cities of the future. And for SimCity, the future doesn't involve building out, but rather building up. A new trailer for the Cities of Tomorrow expansion shows off towering skyscrapers that take advantage of unused airspace to build upwards. Also, there are aliens, for some reason.

The trailer displays some futuristic technology, like wave generators that utilize hydroelectric power and garbage atomizers that efficiently dispose of excess waste. The quick 90-second trailer ends with a meteor crash and an invasion from an alien robot that looks an awful lot like Emperor Zurg from Toy Story.

To see what the future holds, check out the trailer below. SimCity's Cities of Tomorrow expansion is set to release on November 12 for PC and Mac.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
