Bungie's Destiny coming in 2014

Sony's E3 presentation moved towards a conclusion with new Destiny gameplay footage and a 2014 release date.

Sony moved towards the end of their E3 presentation by showing the first gameplay footage of Bungie's Destiny. This came alongside an announcement that Destiny would arrive in 2014.

An on-stage demonstration of the game showcased one player meeting up with another for some co-op action exploring a derelict factory in Old Russia. The two took down a boss, fawned over their loot, and then joined a larger player event (i.e. raid boss). Check out the first gameplay trailer.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

This game looks awesome.I just hope it has a good competitive multiplayer and not just co-op,which I know that the Shackers love, but I've never been a fan.

what about titanfall looked interesting to you? it's just COD with mechs. This at least has a colorful art direction and interesting set pieces and creatures.

Titanfall has jetpacks too, so there is vertical gameplay, which is totally lacking in Call of Duty. I thought the art design looked decent as well. What's going to be exciting gameplay wise about Destiny?

'just CoD' with massive changes in maneuverability plus agile mechs is a rather substantial change

CoD is a fucking awesome template to start with for MP. The additions look meaningful though. Basically asymmetric gameplay for both teams in the same map aka Battlefield.

What didn't look interesting about Titanfall? I haven't been interested in CoD for years, but that game looked AMAZING!

I think I have two issues with it, both particular to me:
#1 - The sound design was terribly boring. Unlike DICE, who has done amazing work with the Frostbyte engine in sound design, Titanfall is more of the same unmodulated noise. A lot of the presentation sounded eerily like Call of Duty with wimpy sound effects and none of the nice distortion and dynamic mixing that Battlefield has.

#2 - I'm just... tired of shooters. I find myself wanting to play more games like To The Moon, FTL, Miasmata, Cart Life and Swapper than the next big shooter, though BioShock Infinite was at least interesting for its story (not so interesting for the disappointing gameplay).

It looked completely drab. The art direction was nil. The cities looked grey and lifeless. Even the gameplay looked pretty standard, albeit with mechs, but that won't get me to pay $560 for the game.

It looked like fun to me. No anywhere as good as Destiny though. I'm not going to argue too hard for the game because Destiny was the one I'm more excited about.

Destiny is the only FPS I may be interested in. That looked like it might be fun cooperative.

I think both were interesting in their own right but Titanfall looked more fun, hard say why it just did. Destiny had a certain sterile feel, even if the environments looked stellar. But its not a compettition really, the only thing that bugs me is the console exclusive thing. stupid.

COD with mechs sounds badass and the video looked fun. Destiny is made by the dudes who made the best console multiplayer this gen. Both games are going to be baller as fuck most likely. My addict brain got a jolt when I watched the Destiny play and they got to find new loot from the boss guy they killed. Then in Titanfall when he ripped that dude from the mech and tossed him?!?! Jesus Christ that is going to be fun as shit! Shogo y'all!!!

Titanfall gave me a Shogo vibe with the mixed on foot / mobile mech gameplay.

Not a persistent world, but I saw a demo of XCOM: The Bureau on Spike earlier today, that was similar but a lot more wild, hectic and plain fun. I love tactical action games like these, so I'm happy with both, but XCOM edged out The Division with sheer joyful mayhem (and nasty little grey aliens).

Out of Titanfall, The Division and Destiny, I think I was most piqued by Destiny.

It had the strongest feeling of a persistent world (although whether that will hold true in the long run, we'll have to wait and see). I like the co-op questing for Phat Lootz™ and the MMO-style public events that will get groups dropping in and joining together. I like building your character's abilities through gear, just in general, and that gear had frikken skill trees ON THE GEAR (love that). It actually had all the things I liked the most about one of my most-played online titles of this generation: Too Human - I kept thinking about Too Human through the whole demo, as a matter of fact: stats through loot, limited but well-balanced character classes, co-op/exploration that's balanced for small groups. Then to have the large-scale encounters too that you can drop into on top of all that is right up my alley.

I also thought it was absolutely the most beautiful and creative looking world of all three. Damn, I was loving the lighting effects. The whole look had a little bit of an modernized Edgar Rice Burroughs feel to me, which makes me happy.

I assume there will be PvP options, but that's not really where I find as much fun online, so I'm actually more stoked on the co-op emphasis.

Titanfall looked AMAZING, but I'm also more interested in Destiny. In the end Titanfall will probably play more like Call of Duty (even though it looks 20x better than any CoD in years). Destiny looks more open-world and exploratory with some very innovative online functions and a play style more similar to Borderlands 2. Destiny definitely looks more interesting to me.

The Destiny loot system totally sold me on the game a lot more than the other shooter MMOs.
