Diablo 3 coming to Xbox 360, launches with PS3 version on September 3

Blizzard had already announced the PlayStation 3 version of Diablo 3, so we had assumed it was coming to Xbox 360 as well. It appears our assumptions were right, as the company announced a version for Microsoft's current gen console, and a release date of September 3 for both.

When Blizzard announced Diablo 3 for PlayStation 3 back in February, we sort of assumed it'd inevitably come to Xbox 360 as well. Indeed it will, the company confirmed today, announcing that both editions will hit on the same day: September 3.

The Infernal Helm, announced as a pre-order bonus for the PS3, will also be available for the Xbox 360, wearable by any class and giving extra experience for leveling.

"Playing Diablo 3 on a big screen with your friends brings a whole new level of intensity to the game, and with all of the control and interface adaptations we've made, it's extremely fun to play on PS3 and Xbox 360," said Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard, in a release. "In addition to the fine-tuning we've done for the console versions, we're also including major content and design updates we've made to the PC version over the past year, so players can expect an epic Diablo gaming experience when the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions launch in September."

Blizzard is already developing the game for the next generation of consoles, having revealed a PS4 version when it announced it for PS3, so it also makes sense that a Xbox One version is forthcoming, perhaps waiting for the reveal at Microsoft's E3 Xbox presentation on June 10.

Steve previewed the PS3 version with its changes for the gamepad if you want to see how the game will play.

Oh that would so great. Especially since the drop rates will likely be better with NO AH.

They're revamping drop rates and item quality completely on the PC anyway (and the rate at which items drop is absurdly high right now, it's just the variance in quality that's a little problematic.)

It might actually be possible if they didn't have to change too much of the game to get it to fit on the consoles. They are already doing stuff like that in WoW.

I don't know. I don't see a reason to get rid of my Xbox 360 and PS3...high fidelity alone don't mean anything to me, and I'll be damned if I'm going to play MMO's and fps for another 7 years.

Not sure if this announcement helps or hinders future sales considerations.

Wonder what the odds are that they'll accounce features for the PC version as well. Or the xpac?
