Crysis 3 Wii U was made but 'had to die'

The Wii U is a reasonably powerful piece of kit, so how come the recent launch of Crysis 3 skipped it? "We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it. But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that," Yerli told VentureBeat.

"Since we as a company couldn't launch on the Wii U ourselves--we don't have a publishing license--Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die."

And die it did. The Wii U has hardly been a romping-stomping success, but you might think EA and have more interest in getting one of its flagship games out there, and Nintendo would be more keen to have it. Evidently, the two couldn't come to an agreement which they both deemed worth it.

Wonder who you fault more? EA? Nintendo?

I blame EA because they're being pissy about how Nintendo didn't use Origin for its back bone.

Every time I hear about something weird going on with those two companies, I believe that rumor more and more.

It's because EA is a big baby that's why.

That is kinda stupid... I assume they put a bit of work into actually getting it up and running.

I bet Nintendo didn't want to co-market a straight port of a shooter that has never been a big seller. A shame though, this console needs 3rd party games day and date if it has any chance of holding what little lead it has heading into November. It's going to be a rough first half of the year for Wii U because they don't have any real system sellers coming until the fall.

It's like the 3ds situation except it'll be going up against much stronger competition than the vita when the new consoles come out.

They should really do a price drop and the ambassador program like they did with the 3DS.

IMO N needed this game to be released, regardless of its quality. It would not have been horrible im sure, even if it had been the weakest version of the title, but it would have been a real, honest to goodness new release multiplatform AAA title on an N console. It would have made people say "cool Crysis is on Nintendo now. neato." Whereas now it is just another line on the endless doom and gloom list for Nintendo.

I feel bad for nintendo. I can't imagine how they're going to fare any better in the year ahead as news and excitement grows for the other new systems.

Even their usual bankable stuff like metroid / zelda / 3d Mario appears to be really far off in the distance.

This is disastrous news. Nintendo is slipping like crazy. On the OTHER hand, the fact that Crysis 3 was up and running on Wii U says lots about its potential being one of the prettiest shooters this gen.
In the end the customers suffer. This is bad, bad news.

I was looking at the Wii U game selection at stores this weekend and its essentially the same stuff from launch. They did not pace this well. I love the console, but they have got to get some product out there soon.

It's playing out almost exactly like the 3DS launch did.... at least they were able to turn it around with some killer games (something the hardware superior Vita still lacks and is suffering as a result). The pipeline looks pretty amazing for the WiiU, but it still seems like the flood gates aren't going to open for quite a while....

I have a feeling this would have been horrible on the U. Just look at the problems Arkham City had on it, and it was not near as power hungry as the Crysis series.

I think Arkham is more a porting issue than anything else.

Ugh, I hate this. Too bad for Nintendo.

I hope digital distribution helps put an end to finished or near-finished games getting tossed like this. I mean put it up for download, make a few bucks, what's there to lose? You don't have the whole retail gamble to worry about.

Apparently the sound in the 360 version had to die too, man is it choppy.
