Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes expansion announced, drops Elemental name

The launch of the original Elemental: War of Magic was disastrous for developer Stardock, but a string of patches and the standalone expansion Elemental: Fallen Enchantress got the fantasy strategy series into pretty decent shape. Another expansion will arrive in April, Stardock announced yesterday, ditching the Elemental name entirely in Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes.

As the name suggests, Legendary Heroes has an interest in, well, legendary heroes. The expansion revamps the champion system, making them seek you out based on your fame and reputation rather than being found while exploring. "Your kingdom gains fame through a variety of means and as a result, the player's affinity with champions is now tied to the choices their Kingdom as a whole makes," lead designer Derek 'Kael' Paxton explained in the announcement. Legendary Heroes also brings new monsters including liches and banshees, a new leveling system, new battle maps, a revamped graphic engine, larger maps, extra items, and more. "Players will immediately recognize that the world has changed," Paxton added. "Besides just looking a lot better, the battles are far more intense. Units have a lot more skills to choose from in battle and the maps are much more varied. We redid virtually all of them." Legendary Heroes' April launch on PC will be heralded by a public beta in March. The expansion will be, as promised, free to people who bought the original Elemental early, or $19.99 for Fallen Enchantress owners and $39.99 as a standalone. Well, colour me interested, this game is starting to resemble Age of Wonders more and more.

Interesting. Their old art style was horrible.

Cant wait to get it - FREE
Fallen Enchantress is a good game and every time they patch it or add something its always been to its betterment.
I'm not in love with the art style, but it does make the game uniquely theirs. Cant mistake this game for anything else.
I was hoping the better graphics would make it look better, but I don't really see much improvement, at least in the character pictures.
I suppose this is game best played from a far distance, cause up close the images burn the retinas.

Yep, I am in the free club as well, having been suckered in to buying the original at launch. I still haven't played FE yet, though - it's in my strategy game queue, which is massive.
