Report: Dead Space 3 PC is straight port

Dead Space 3 for PC is reportedly a straight port of the console versions, which means no DirectX 11 support or high-res textures.

Dead Space 3 is getting a PC version, but it's reportedly lacking in bells and whistles. The PC version is said to be a straight-up port, which means no DirectX 11 support or high-res textures for your power machine.

The word comes from Games.on.net (via PC Gamer). This isn't confirmed, but if it holds true PC fans won't be able to push their hardware to the limit with Isaac's next adventure. Shacknews has contacted EA regarding the report, and will update as more information becomes available.

This. I'm not buying it if they don't put in any effort into making it feel like a PC game for the PC version. If I wanted to feel like I'm playing an Xbox version, I'd buy that version. Don't make a mockery of my mouse and keyboard by having slow reacting, joystick-like feeling controls. I like the pinpoint precision and quick reactions I can achieve only with the PC.

was DS2 the same? because i thought that looked fine on PC. and i'd still rather play with higher screen res and better frame rate (assuming it's not capped).

Not surprising, considering previous versions were the same and had some large problems with key binding (e.g. cannot bind mouse keys).

Start from there, then slowly creeping up to:
        - better texture
        - drm
        - modding

Us PC gamers are never happy.

haha, seriously I just want proper mouse/keyboard support, no bullshit acceleration and the ability to remap ANY KEY I WANT also good FOV because low FOV has been an instant trigger for my migraines the last couple years

Hey man, I'm just saying that they should re-do the texture pack for PC, not make new art from scratch. And going no drm isn't technically challenging, it's not asking for much in my opinion. And mod tools exist for all games, the devs use them to make the game right? So I'm not saying they have to invent mod support, just release the game tools they have.

Did you have any particular complaints with regard to DRM in dead space 1/2? The steam version only used steam for DRM. What's the issue? No secuROM, No GFWL, I seriously see NO ISSUE with the DRM unless you're just going out of your way to find things to complain about. Which (again, i'm guilty of this sometimes) a LOT of PC gamers tend to complain about stupid stuff, a lot.

Although, I wouldn't mind high res textures. I'm not sure what the deal with Dead Space 2 was, but I thought it looked great personally. It definitely looked a lot better than most console ports do, the graphics in DS2 were significantly better than those in MW3 or blops 2 for example.

Yeah, I played 2 on pc. Atrocious kb/m controls made me use a gamepad and I had to use nvidia drivers to get 60fps. Still enjoyed myself thoroughly... until the last 25-30%, but that had nothing to do with the platform.

You can turn off vsync with a framerate limiter, or use adaptive vsync and mouse input is fine with zero lag. Not an excuse, but I was able to play fine with mouse/kb.

360 controller is likely the best way to play, though.

Oh good grief. DS1/2 were great on the PC, people need to stop being silly.

I thought DS2 on PC had good graphics and worked great with FXAA/MLAA for anti aliasing. I'm guilty of this sometimes, but I guess its true that PC gamers are huge snobs sometimes.

Certainly DS2 wasn't on the level of something like prototype 2 or dark souls (unmodded) in terms of having bad graphics. They were pretty good.

DS2 was the best possible "half assed" effort port you could hope for IMO. It worked well, was blisteringly well optimized and the games very good artwork covered up the abysmally low resolution textures even at 1080p+ resolutions.

I think it was pretty well loved but of course those with problems are always the loudest, as it should be.

My experiences with Deadspace 1&2 on PC

DS1: Adequate except for the fact that the mouse acceleration was a real pain when trying to line up shots.

DS2: Adequate, mouse accel fixed (or at least minimized) but now I've got a problem with the animation rig on characters. eyeballs wouldn't stay fixed to the rest of the character model. Imagine the moments when the camera moves in to give us a good view of the characters faces for a dramatic moment only to see their eyes float out of their sockets.

Playable but not without faults. I don't buy Deadspace games at full price so it doesn't bother me much.

$5 on Steam sales, though I wonder if Deadspace 3 will be on Steam, or if it will be Origin only. I haven't checked yet.

well Ds1 and 2 played wonderfully on PC for me. DS1 required some tweaking, very little though, and DS2 was fine OOB other than the stupid ass DLC patch that made some stupid changes that needed to be reversed by blah blah. that was the only thing that bothred me because it really indicated that they gave not a single fuck about the players. probablly more an issue of funding from EA for the PC version, i hope so anyway.

Im not worried, as long as it has the same level of effort at least as DS2 ill still play it. still wont buy it until a couple years though, due to origin.

the thing that bothers me most about DS3 is the way that EA will bemoan the terrible sales on PC, when its mainly going to be an issue of the game being forced onto origin and not available on steam.

Not surprising. Sad when the best we can hope for is for them to finish the game after its release. Become a common practice for games to be patched with even basic PC abilities after they see what the backlash is going to be.

if it holds true PC fans won't be able to push their hardware to the limit with Isaac's next adventure

There hasn't been a game that was developed for consoles first that pushed PC hardware in 5 years. Battlefield 3 probably made a few people upgrade, but that was because the developed for the PC then stripped away stuff to make it run on consoles.

You don't support the PC gamers we won't support your company. And they wonder why people pirate their games? Put the time and effort into your product for the paying customer.

It makes me think of Max Payne 3. Online play was riddled with hackers and the whole thing was broken. was that fair for the people who paid 59 bucks for it? Rockstar didn't even TRY to fix it, they didn't implement anything that OTHER companies have done to protect their product. They just threw their hands up and basically said "well we got their money" and abandoned the hacking issues.

So you think imma pay 59 bucks for the next Rockstar game? Nope. Don't cry about being cheated when you cheat the paying customers .

          ^^^
By pirating it, you're just going to make your condition worse. Pirating implies that you want the game, but are unwilling to pay for it because it's easy enough to get for free. In an effort to make it harder to get free, companies are gonna step up their DRM.

Either vote with your wallet by not buying it AND not playing it, or buy it and show them there's interest in games being released on PC.
