Thatgamecompany's Journey has hit the critical sweet spot this year, already circulating in year-end discussions. But its artistry is getting some notice outside the gaming bubble too, as the game has earned a Grammy nomination for its score.

Composer Austin Wintory expressed shock on Twitter upon receiving the news that his score is up for the Grammy in the category "Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media." His competition is a who's who of modern score composers, including John Williams (The Adventures of Tin-Tin) and Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight Rises).

This marks the first time a full score from a video game has been nominated for a Grammy, but not the first time game music has made a Grammy appearance. Christopher Tin won the Grammy for his song "Baba Yetu," which was originally composed for Civilization IV.
