Originally outed this summer, it appears "The Scorchers" DLC for Rage is finally inching closer to release. A new set of trophies for the PS3 version of the game have popped up, confirming the impending release of the add-on whilst shedding some light on what to expect.

The Scorchers were originally intended to be a clan in the original release of the game. The upcoming DLC expansion appears to offer not only new missions, but weapons and mini-games to play through as well.

Five trophies are specifically tied to completing missions in the add-on campaign, so we can expect at least five missions. Other trophies discovered by PS3Trophies.org detail two mini-games: Roly-Poly and Video Poker. Finally, there are two achievements tied to using weapons in a specific way.

Oddly, Bethesda has yet to officially announce this expansion. One wonders exactly how much marketing muscle they'll put behind an add-on to a game that is already over a year old.

Too little too late. What a waste of Id's time.

Move on to the next project guys, Rage was pretty fun suppose, but I won't be playing it again.

The "next project" is Doom 4, but I have to wonder how far off the rails that went during the bad creative direction that Id took while making Rage. Between this and Doom 3 BFG Ediiton's splat, there needs to be an intervention at QuakeCon 2013, or at least some sort of appeasement to show that they haven't all lost their way.

Seriously though when's the last good game they made? Arguably Doom 3. Which was ok. But Quake 3 Arena is probably their last really good solid game. Not including Quake Live which is still great, great fun. They've said a Quake 5 Arena game is entirely dependent on Quake Live's success, given the number of players (At least in AU anyway), it's not looking promising.

I'm imagining Andrew calling up Pete Hines, asking, "So, this Scorchers thing that appeared on the PS3 trophy list; does it exist?" ...and getting an answer of, "No comment."

The Scorcher cars are in the game as opponents in the Wasteland near the highway onramps; I'm guessing that Id was working on the rest of the Scorcher assets in the middle of cert process, and planning it as follow-up DLC for December 2011, but then that got frozen after Bethesda wound down funding after the sales figures came in, and Id had to perform a then-unheard-of post-release layoff round.

They were definitely considering DLC; back in August 2009, Tim Willits interviewed by Chris Faylor:

      http://www.shacknews.com/article/60120/rage-interview-ids-tim-willits
Shack: So, what's that mean for Rage DLC?
Tim Willits: For us, 100% of the guys are working on getting the game done. Trust me on this one. But we have started conversations with everybody on what works out well. One of the great things about being in the Bethesda family is they've had success, they've been able to do good downloadable content without alienating people.

Haters be damned, I enjoyed Rage up until the end and will probably buy this unless it's priced wrong.

I enjoyed it up to the end too, but then was like "wtf, that's it?" I felt like I was only half-way through the game, then it ended.

"Hey, you know how people have, like, a climax at the end of things? What if we totally subvert that, in the most drab, boring, and generic way possible. But we'll still give them an amazing gun they won't at all need, just to fuck with them."

I liked most everything else, though respawning in the single player combat races felt wrong, should still be that when you die, you die, and same goes for your race opponents.

i think they've learned their lesson with that. if they don't focus on the combat, which was FUN AS FUCK, then it would be *really* dumb.

I'd love to rant about how much this game should of been great but I'll let others do it.... I'm shocked they have been putting together DLC for this game....

So are we getting the map editor/tools carmack you said like a year ago? If not then what dlc?

At about 20 gigabytes, it's hard to keep this game installed. I've already played through it twice - I'll probably wait to play the DLC for when I get a new computer/ gfx card, just to be amazed by the RAGE graphics all over again.

Unless DOOM 4 comes out - that would change everything.

the game engine is fine, no reason why you cant have a clever storyline tie everything together.

I for one will not be returning to Rage its sad to say but, I never finished the game anyways after a few hours with the game I didn't like it as much as I thought I was going to. So I will not be buying this really late DLC.
