Far Cry 3 trailer shows off map editor

Making your own Far Cry 3 maps will be as simple as slopping down some terrain, painting on foliage, then plopping in plops. Ubisoft today released a new trailer for the open-world FPS's in-game map editor, which will let players make levels for multiplayer and single-player.

While FC3's seems primarily for making multiplayer maps, you will be able to slap in enemies to make a single-player level too. You can upload your creations for others to download and rate. Far Cry 2 boasted a pretty snazzy editor, but it's looking even better in 3.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Far Cry 3 comes to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next week, on December 4. Check out our glowing review of the single-player campaign.

I want to support Shacknews by using the articles here but when I have to go to YouTube to watch these videos in their intended quality, it makes it very inconvenient!

What kind of quality fetishist are you? It's fine. Not the best, but fine.

It's pretty bad. 720p on the shack can look as blurry as 360p does on youtube.

I was going to say this. It has been like this for years now right? What is the fucking problem with just embedding the youtube video or making the shack player not eat a bag of dicks? It's fucking terrible.

Heh, not only that but there are only two sizes to view in - tiny window or full screen. There needs to be an 'actual pixels' option.

No, it's really really shitty. Here's are two comparison screenshots from a different trailer that I took last time I complained about this

Shack player set to 720p: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26620/Misc%20Pictures/ShackVideo.png
          YouTube set to 720p: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/26620/Misc%20Pictures/YouTube.png

The Shack player pretty much does 480p even when set to 720p. Either that or they compress the living shit out of their videos such that the resolution doesn't matter.

What I meant was that I don't see much of a problem with viewing a video in 480p. Sure, 720p is much nicer, but if I come across a video (like this one) on Shacknews, I don't search for it on Youtube to have a slightly better quality. For these kind of vids anyway. If I really wanted to check out closely how the textures in FC3 look, I'd probably do it, but I already know the graphics are great, so I don't bother. This video is about the editor and its features after all.

I generally agree though. Would of course be nicer to have the videos in the best quality available.

Sweet. All the Farcrys I've played have had some really fun mp maps. Good to hear the map editor is coming back.

Plopping in plops makes me giggle. Why?

I keep hearing great things about this game, I sure hope it's better then the 2nd because that one bored me at a certain point and I couldn't even figure out what was my next mission. Good level editor though very impressed they have something like this that basically takes the hours and hours of level design other editors would require and made it simple.
