BioShock Infinite has no multiplayer

BioShock Infinite will have no multiplayer, according to Irrational head and series creator Ken Levine.

As potentially cool as it could be to use the BioShock's assortment of crazy powers in a deathmatch, BioShock 2's attempt at multiplayer was largely ignored. BioShock Infinite creator Ken Levine has confirmed the game has no multiplayer, debunking a long-running rumor.

Levine confirmed it with a matter-of-fact tweet, in response to a fan question. "No MP in Infinite," he said.

Multiplayer was long-rumored for the game, after job listings seemed to imply that it was in the cards. But following some key developers leaving Irrational, we heard reports that the multiplayer modes had been scrapped. More developers have left Irrational since then, but the studio has picked up Epic Games' Rod Fergusson.

Last we heard, BioShock Infinite is still on-track for its planned February 2013 release. Culling the multiplayer may help Irrational hit that target.

Good. Looking forward to this, I just hope the PC version will at least maintain the standards of the first two games, which came close to being broken but were saved by fixable FoV and mouse.

This game scares me with the lack of showing off the game, if they got something amazing going I'm sure they would be showing it off a little more. No multiplayer sounds about right given how the original bioshock had no need for it. The real question I got is where's the Vita version of the game they announced a LONG time ago? Is it scraped? Is it being made by a third party dev?

Hurray! Resources better spent on what people want from a Bioshock title. An amazing single player experience.

Guess it's too much to ask for co-op ala System Shock 2, but what're you gonna do. Like ME3, people would piss their pants in fury if the word multiplayer was thrown in anywhere near a game like this.

I thought they had confirmed this back in April?

It was a report in early August, based on a phone conversation between Kotaku and Ken Levine, as well as other unnamed sources. http://kotaku.com/5933119/bioshock-infinite-update-multiplayer-modes-cut-gears-maestro-joining-should-fans-worry

I wanna say there were some layoffs, or maybe some people quit? And they were some of the folks working on thee MP side of things. I don't remember exactly. It wasn't confirmed that there would be no MP then, but it was certainly hypothesized.

A bunch of people left, as reported by the Kotaku article:

Art director Nate Wells and director of product development Tim Gerritsen, two key senior members of the creative team, are the latest in a string of staffers to depart Irrational over the past 18 months. Other departures include design director Jeff McGann, producer Joe Faulstick, principal systems designer Ken Strickland, senior level designer Steve Gaynor, and systems designer Tynan Sylvester, among others. Coupled with the departure of Wells, who has been a part of Irrational for more than a decade, and Gerritsen, it seems that a significant chunk of the core Infinite team is no longer working on the game.

Steve Gaynor moved to Oregon and started an indie studio called "The Fullbright Company", working on "Gone Home", a first-person adventure game. Also, community coordinator Chris Remo moved to San Francisco to join Double Fine.

One notable hire: Rod Fergusson left Epic to join Irrational, as a producer or lead, IIRC.
