Beyond Good & Evil 2 development held up by Rayman

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been stuck in limbo since it was first revealed the game existed in 2008. Ubisoft has continued to assure those anticipating the sequel to the well-received adventure game that it is still in development, but now we know a bit more on why there has been little movement on the game. It's all because of Rayman.

Designer Michel Ancel has wanted to work on the project, but he is "doing too many things at the same time," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot told Polygon. "He was working on Rayman Origins last year, and he's working a lot on Rayman Legends this year. So, you know, when he does that, he kind of puts too much of his time on the other projects that he has. So the fact is, that working on Legends is slowing the process on Beyond Good & Evil 2."

Guillemot added that Ubisoft has been working on the game and that it is "one they want to do," but apparently the game will continue to be a much lower priority until Legends is released sometime early next year.

To bad. I'm sure it will be a hit when it is released. Then again think the first one was a bit of a underground sensation.

That's an understatement. It was reduced in price to 20 bucks within a month of its release.

That's the only reason I ended up getting that game at first. Bought it for $6 new. Was surprised at how awesome it ended up being.

Yeah, heck of a fun game. For some reason I love games with photography minigames in them.

Exactly this! Rayman games are actually pretty good but FUCK 'EM! If they are in the way of BG&E2 then I'll take him out myself if I have to.

Rayman is also Michel Ancel's own character so of course he is entitled to work on whatever he wants.

I for one love the Rayman games and really love BG&E.

Whatever Michel Ancel is working on, good for him. Bring it on and I'll play it.

Hopefully by making 2 2D Rayman platformers in a row, Ancel has got it out of his system and turns his undivided attention to BG&E 2.

Don't get me wrong, Rayman's cool and all, but fucking Beyond Good & Evil 2. We've been wanting this game for nearly a decade.

I grabbed the BG&E HD demo for PS3 on weekend, you know all things considered, it's quite playable and still good enough looking to finish I reckon. Maybe I can finally finish it (3'rd time I've started it)

Good choice. Rayman Origins was much more fun than BG&E

I'm so damn pissed off at Ubisoft that they did nothing for PC regarding the re-release of BG&E.

The new high res UI looks fine and it would've been great to receive an update to the Steam version for example.

Otherwise the PC version has always been more HD than the console versions will ever be with their 720p cap.
