Team Fortress 2 is crossing streams with yet another game, and this time it's Trion's upcoming MMORPG Rift. Trion announced the bonus items through a press release, while Valve had a more playful approach.
Pre-ordering Rift through Steam by March 1 will unlock two exclusive melee weapons for Team Fortress 2: the Sharpened Volcano Fragment and Sun-on-a-Stick. Both items will be available through crafting after Rift launches. Plus, Team Fortress 2 is getting a new "Riftwalker" achievement, awarded for killing an enemy within five seconds of walking through a teleporter. Unlocking it will grant players a code for the Well Spun Hat in Rift once the game launches.
It's hard to tell how much the class-based shooter and MMORPG audiences will cross-over, but who wouldn't want to whack enemies around with a hot piece of magma?

How is everyone liking Rift? I have heard good things about it.

Close enough to WoW that you can jump in and figure it out immediately. Not different enough to get me to sign up though.
I also found it really frustrating trying to chase rifts and invasions. Seems like they were always just over the next hill when I tried to look for them. But, it did feel like they spawn in the same places. So, maybe I should have just sat in one spot.

Playing the beta just once was enough to sell me.
Excellent visuals, though maxed out can get a bit demanding on one's rig. Lighting/shadowing and particle effects (involving spells, mainly) are gorgeous.
The sheer amount of class/subclass customization is almost overwhelming, but I'm looking forward to it. It really feels like you can make the class _you_ want. E.g. Mage&Cleric are not strictly designated to DPS and healing, respectively - Mage has some healing-ish subroles, some buff support, etc, and some Cleric subroles can dish out some crazy damage. Not that other games don't have this (WoW Shadowpriest for example), but the depth of class variety is what sets Rift apart, I find.
xcalibur19 and daggot's comments also certainly ring true; it is effectively a clone or at least heavily influenced by WoW and WAR, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you're looking for a brand new, unique and different experience you may get disappointed. If you enjoy questing, leveling, the typical MMORPG tropes, but need a fresh setting, Rift is looking to have a solid and polished launch with slick looks and a deep class system. -
Rift seems polished and as one person replied it is a mix of WoW and Warhammer. Both in my opinion are a good thing.
The only problem with Rift, is I am not bored of WoW enough to play Rift. I have been in 6 of the 3 day betas and I only find enough time to play a few hours for each beta. Rift is just not sucking me in. It is not bad at all, it is really good, I think if this is your first MMO experience it will go down in history as your favorite, but if you have been playing MMOs since UO, then you will probably get bored fast. -
As has been stated, the game for beta seems very polished. I was taken aback by it. However, the "reskinned WoW with a dash of WAR" is too much of an understatement. For me, it seems like RIFT took just about every awesome feature of other MMO's and put them into a single game. The only problem is that they they didn't do anything unique in themselves. Nothing in this game makes it stand out. Absolutely nothing at all. And I feel that that is tragic.
