A new Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands trailer shows off the Prince's ability to use elemental powers to help him leap, swing and wall-run through the exotic environments.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is due to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii DS and PSP on May 18. Retailer listings indicate that the PC version will follow in early June.

The Prince's elemental powers also have offensive abilities in combat, as the earlier trailer included below demonstrates.

I wonder if the new elemental powers can be learned and triggered at will, or if you have a finite amount (that can maybe be recharged at some point).

The puzzles could be very interesting as seen when the Prince jumps on a stream of water to solidify it as a “pole”, jumps off the pole, and then quickly has to turn the wall of water he’s about to collide with back into moving water to get through it, and then has to solidify another stream of water a millisecond later. A fast run of these types of "timing" puzzles (where you not only have to make quick judgements about where and when to jump, but timing it with your water or earth power, and maybe time it with other traps) is making that game that much more challenging for those of us who’ve already finished 4 of these games.

They’ve made mention of this game being more open (like the 2008 PoP reboot maybe?) and that the elemental powers will let you go in different paths. Example: you could climb the wall the standard way for one path, or use your elemental powers to solidify water and climb up it another way. I wonder if you will need to “save up” your water power for when you reach these paths, or if you will always be able to use the water power and simply need to find places to use it.

The demos I've seen show pretty much exactly what you described. There's a lot of precise timing involved with activating and deactivating the elemental powers at the proper time.
