Guitar Hero 5 Import Feature Snags a Fraction of World Tour Songs

27
Though Activision is allowing users to import songs from Guitar Hero World Tour into Guitar Hero 5, the feature currently only extends to 35 of World Tour's 86 tracks.

As reported by USA Today, the 35 songs will cost users 250 Microsoft Points ($3.50) to import. By comparison, Rock Band 2 users are able to export 55 of Rock Band's 58 songs for the cost of $5. Activision told an indignant Destructoid that the list of World Tour imports will be expanded in the future as more songs are ported.

      What's to laugh about? 35 songs for $3.50 ain't a bad deal.

Perhaps the fact that you are re-licensing songs you've already paid to license?

Well RB1 --> RB2 people have to do that, too.

The thing to laugh at is that there's no option to do all of them

so something that rock band players held over the heads of GH players is how something to be laughed at? gee thats amusing.

Except Rockband to Rockband 2 only lacked three songs. This lacks Fifty songs. That's most of the soundtrack. So you get less songs both by pure numbers and by percentage. It's just bleh. A full-disc-import should be a no-brainer for this genre, especially considering Activisions bloated attempts at shoveling out as much GH over-saturation love as they can.

They have to change all the purple notes, completely overhaul the vocals and add support for all the new game modes to the .chart files. It's going to take a while but all the songs will be done I guess within a month so there's no problem. Rockband 2 wii PAL isn't even out for another 3 months, so frankly I think waiting a month for 50 songs on Guitar Hero is a much better deal than waiting a year for RB2. It's not as if you can't just boot up the other disc for now anyway.

You'd play a game based around playing music on Wii, which has mono audio output? Yeah...yeaahhhhhh

                Also >>Wii
                >>Pal

You really shouldn't even be complaining. You get what you pay for.

the only reason those other songs aren't converted is LICENSING. when are people going to get this through their heads?

lol mono audio output. thanks for showing us how little you really know by bringing up an issue that was resolved about a week after the game launched. but by all means, keep trying, it's hilarious...

wow... so you paid $5 for 55 out of 58 songs. GH players pay $3.50 for 35 songs. It's basically the same ratio price wise (0.09 vs 0.1).

I never mentioned the price butthurtboy, I mentioned how many songs you get from the setlist out of the deal. Calm yourself down.

Haha... Indeed, you never mentioned the price. Sorry to have implied this was your problem, but as someone who play both RB and GH and don't really root for one side or another, I really don't see the import feature of GH:5 as something to laugh about.
Since it's in the same pricing category as the competition, I don't really see what the matter is, especially when they mention that the number of imported songs will expand as they port more or them.

he brought up the percentages, which is the same (lack of) argument. clearly you are just dealing with irrational GH hate, because you know its the cool thing to do. staring at the same exact interface for the last 4 years will do that to you i guess...

Smoking a lot of pot most have made you forget that GH has had the same interface for going on, what, a decade? Yeah...

                      Great argument there funnyface.

Oh, and 420 in the name. A pothead telling me about hating the cool thing. -Rich-.

nice comeback little boy. niiiiice. see how well thought out and relevant that is to the discussion? did some big bad stoners light a joint up your ass when you were a child? oh wait, you still are a child... how sad.

if you played GH more than once, you would know that the graphics, chart boards, band visuals and interface have all changed almost every release. that couldn't possibly be true, could it? and it still doesn't change the fact that you can't even defend your point of view. great post!

I really had no complaint, I was mostly just poking gentle fun. I have too much fun with Rockband to feel the need to defend it against faceless online opponents. But if it makes you feel happy, sure, go for it man. You -won- this imaginary war. Go team you.

I don't find it like "HAHAHAHA" funny, I find it like...soft chuckle funny. For having copied Rockband note for note, it's funny that they are faultering on something as simple as song-import. I don't have a problem with it, as it has been said before they will expand the list to most likely the entire catalog. The point was more of how silly it was that not only did it take them so long to get to this, and they still aren't doing it quite up to speed.

at least they are taking the time to rework and update the note charts, instead of directly dumping them out of their old game like *someone* did when they released RB2. wait, no... new features are bad! screw you activision!

It is a step in the right direction for Activision. Mind you, it's obviously something they started on late in the process, while HMX/MTV likely saw the light of perpertual licensing at the start. If they continue with the rest of the games being forward-compat, it's reasonably fair.

Yes, it is a bit disappointing that only 35 songs currently exportable; I'd have thunk Activision to have more clout than that.
