Symphony of the Night Emerges on PS3, PSP

11
Konami's PlayStation vampire classic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night appeared on the PlayStation Store today as a $9.99 download. Playable on the PS3 or downloadable to a PSP, the title is currently the highest priced original PlayStation game available on the PlayStation store. All other classic titles max out at $5.99.

Symphony of the Night's $10 price matches the 800 Microsoft Points ($10) required to purchase the Xbox Live Arcade version ported by Digital Eclipse in March. The Xbox-optimized version came in at 95MB, while the PlayStation Network download totals 355MB, implying a more straightforward port of the actual PlayStation game.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night redefined 2D sidescrollers when it launched in 1997, with beautifully animated sprites and a mix of role-playing and action elements.

Gamers who wait until the holidays will have another option for playing the classic title on their PSP. Konami announced earlier this year that Symphony of the Night would be unlockable in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP), an enhanced remake of the PC Engine game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.

i hope these sell well enough for Konami to take notice and possibly do another 2D Castlevania game for a home console. even though the formula is getting a bit stale thanks to all the GBA & DS releases, the 3D games are still awfully weak compared to the 2D titles.

I'd love to see a new 2D castlevania that is better looking than something like odin sphere and longer and deeper than SotN.

That'd be pretty much the hottest thing ever.

As much as I've liked some of the GBA/DS ones, none of them have been as solid as SotN was.

you can buy MGS3: Subsistence for the PS2 - it has both MG1 & MG2. I bought a copy new at gamestop last week for $30.

mm yeah, would be nice. However, I just bought the original and the vr missions off amazon for like $10 total ($15+ with shipping). Depending on what they charge and if you want to wait might be worth looking into doing the same. =)

The gamecube version is teh pwnz. ever play that? so cool!

Seriously?? Does it update the graphics or gameplay for either game or is just a straight port?

(I thought the graphics in MGS2 were better than 3 at times.)
