How to Get the Blades of Chaos in God of War
Give enemies a taste of both fire and steel by tracking down Kratos' iconic Blades of Chaos in the new God of War.
God of War series protagonist Kratos has used a lot of different weapons throughout the years, but none have been quite as satisfying as his original set of chain-tethered swords known as the Blades of Chaos. Fashioned by the original god of war Ares before the events of the first God of War game, the Blades of Chaos would come to be Kratos' signature weapon. As such, the development team at Sony Santa Monica decided to include the legendary blades in PS4 title God of War, and we know just where to find them.
Where to Find the Blades of Chaos in God of War
Players hoping to track down Kratos' Blades of Chaos in the new God of War won't have to waste any time searching for them. The blades themselves are granted upon Kratos during the main story mission The Sickness. All those who wish to avoid spoilers can stop reading now — they'll get the Blades of Chaos in due time. Those who want to know more about the weapons, including some mission-specific details following up to their reveal, can continue reading below.
The quest known as The Sickness kicks off after Atreus is hit by a mysterious affliction that has made him deathly ill. Speaking with Freya reveals that a cure is possible, but it involves Kratos traveling to Helheim, the land of the dead, and securing the heart of the Bridge Keeper within.
Helheim — or Hel, for those who prefer the simpler term — is the Norse realm of the dead, a frozen wasteland where fallen souls wander and shamble through the endless frost. Freya surmises that Kratos' ice-based Leviathan axe would have little effect on the inhabitants of Helheim, prompting the Ghost of Sparta to swallow his pride, head back to his cabin, and break out the fire-imbued Blades of Chaos.
Gamers familiar with past games in the God of War series will no doubt feel right at home once Kratos straps the chains around his arms. Light and heavy attacks play out similarly to the traditional form, and once unlocked, the Blades become available for the rest of the game. Not only can they damage enemies across a much greater range, they're also useful for burning down environmental obstacles, the likes of which can be found all throughout Helheim.
