When is the Next Beta for Sea of Thieves?

Another Sea of Thieves beta has ended and it’s left us wanting more.

The latest Sea of Thieves beta has sailed away taking with it cherished memories of piratey goodness. Now that we’ve shaken off the sea salt, we can’t help but wonder when will Sea of Thieves receive its next beta? We just can’t get enough of Rare’s upcoming title, and despite the fact it’s less than a month from launching, we need more.

When is the Next Beta for Sea of Thieves

UPDATE 02: The latest Sea of Thieves Scale Test beta has come to a close, which has left us all wondering when the next Sea of Thieves beta will be, and unfortunately, there might not be another one. As per the quote below, it could make sense for there to be only two scale tests, however, there are three more weekends before Sea of Thieves launches on March 20, so we might see another one.

UPDATE 01: Good news everyone! There is currently another Sea of Thieves Scale Test happening over the weekend, starting right now and ending on Sunday, February 25th at 2AM PST / 5AM EST. Make sure you know how to get the Sea of Thieves closed beta!

To put it simply: we’re not sure but there definitely could be one coming. The closed beta that was held a few weeks ago led to Rare’s decision to hold a scale test – this was the most recent and the shortest beta that ended on February 18. The purpose of this scale test was to measure server load, push it to its limits, and try to cause as much trouble as possible in order to discover bottlenecks in the data being sent around.

In Rare’s recent Sea of Thieves news post, Executive Producer Joe Neate comments on the need for scale testing before the launch of Sea of Thieves. The most interesting comment that pertains to future betas is the following (I’ve bolded the important section):

As a result of the Closed Beta, we are planning on running a couple of Scale Tests between now and launch, with the first of these beginning on Friday, February 16th at 10am GMT (2am PST) and ending on Sunday, February 18th at 10am GMT (2am PST)

So while the first scale test has come to a close, the quote does make mention of “a couple” of these test, so there’s a good chance we might see another small beta between now and launch. Unfortunately, there’s no news right now as to when that may be, and if worst comes to worst, we might not get another beta. However, the launch of Sea of Thieves is less than 30 days away, which is still a pretty good outcome.

In the meantime, make sure your PC is up to scratch and meets the system requirements for Sea of Thieves. We’ll be covering Sea of Thieves up to, and following, its launch!
