Sea of Thieves is having another closed beta in preparation for its full release on March 20, and would-be pirates everywhere are clamouring for the beta start times. Thankfully, Microsoft is giving those with access quite a long period of time to play the beta and experience a taste of what the full game has to offer.

Sea of Thieves Closed Beta Start and End Times

The Sea of Thieves Closed Beta will be available over the course of almost a week, starting January 24 and ending January 29, just in time for a big weekend binge. That’s five whole days (and some change) of singing shanties, searching for treasure, and getting into scraps with other pirates.

Below are the Sea of Thieves beta start times:

  • January 24 at 4:00 AM PST
  • January 24 at 7:00 AM ET

Sea of Thieves closed beta end times:

  • January 29 at 12:00 AM PST
  • January 29 at 3:00 AM ET

Accessing the Sea of Thieves Closed Beta requires you to either preorder the game, have a “Black Dog Pack” redeemable code, or be registered for the Sea of Thieves Insider Program.

The Sea of Thieves Closed Beta will have the cross play feature enabled, allowing PC and Xbox One players to play together (hooray for harmony!), and it will also include the Play Anywhere functionality, allowing you to play on your Xbox One and then shift to your PC if you please. The beta is a mere 7.45 GB in size, so shouldn’t chew up too much of that precious hard drive space.

While Rare is saving a lot of content for the full release, there’s still quite a bit to experience in the beta. You’ll be able to hunt for buried treasure by following maps and solving riddles, play solo or as a team in a shared world, experience all types of weather, and participate in pulse-pounding ship-to-ship combat.

We’ll be diving into the beta as soon as it goes live, so be sure to check back with us for more coverage on Rare’s latest title, Sea of Thieves.
